AAU Team looking for Players

The Legacy AAU 8th grade team is looking for any player interested in playing with their club this spring.  If you are interested or want further information, please contact Coach Dana Smith at danasmith3262@gmail.com.  A current East Central 8th grader, Sierra Preston, currently plays with this team.

Multiple-Sport Athletes & AAU Basketball

Multiple-Sport: The East Central Girls' Basketball Coaching Staff highly encourages our student-athletes to play another sport (or sports) besides just basketball.  All to often in youth sports, kids/families are encouraged by some club coaches to concentrate on one sport (soccer, basketball, softball, volleyball, etc.), which is absolutely absurd.  There are those few that just play basketball, which allows them the opportunity to get in the gym more frequently than others, however that doesn't mean they are always the better basketball players!

AAU: Not every player has the opportunity to play basketball in the spring due to their schedule (softball, track, etc.), but for those that do have the time and desire, it is a terrific way to improve their skills before heading into the summer schedule and eventual winter basketball season.  However, you have to be careful and not get caught up in the belief that you have to play AAU to improve or you have to play AAU to be considered a "good" player.   In reality, there are some kids that just have that "it" factor on the court while some that play all the time just lack that, regardless of how much they practice/play.  Trust me, I've seen some very poor AAU teams/players but more times than not, the kids are benefiting from the experience and are playing because they love the game, the competition, and they have a desire to improve.  The best way to improve is to get a ball in their hands (AAU or not) and have them work hard!

Here is a list of the current incoming Freshman - current Juniors playing AAU this spring:

Juniors: Amber Erhart (SEI Stars), Jenna Hountz (SEI Stars), Danni McClure (SEI Stars)

Sophomores: Brittanie Bolten (Cincinnati's Finest), Emily Koschmeder (SEI Stars), Brooke Packer (SEI Stars), Nicki Roell (Indiana Elite)

Freshman: Bridget Bedel (SEI Stars), Nicole Sandmann (SEI Stars), Kelsey Tippitt (Lady Cats), Claire Volpenhein (Indiana Elite)

8th Grade: Kylie Brock (SEI Stars), Allie McCool (Indiana Flight & SEI Stars), Brandi Moser (SEI Stars), Sierra Preston (Legacy), Madison Wiedeman (SEI Stars)

Packer and Volpenhein Display Talent @ PostYourT All-Star Game

This past Saturday, our nominated and selected players, sophomore Brooke Packer and freshman Claire Volpenhein, were members of the East vs. West Underclassmen All-Star Game.  The event was held at Portland, Indiana.  Brooke and Claire were on the same team and in the end their squad won 104-54!  Packer finished the game with 13 points and Volpenhein (the game's only freshman), finished with 4 points.  Last season, our graduating senior Emily Lehman participated in the event as well.  We'd like to congratulate both girls on being selected and for their play in the game.  Keep up the hard work...because it is paying off!  Click here for more results from the event.

***Trojan teammates Jenna Hountz, Rebecca Weber, and Sami Turner were also selected to play but were unable to participate due to a softball game.

2011-2012 EIAC All-Conference Team

Recently, the six conference school coaches nominated their players they felt were worthy of all-conference honors and then an overall vote decided which 12 kids from the conference would be selected.  Those players with the most votes (points) accumulated in the voting would be the players selected (not all nominated players make the team).  The rule is this, a coach CAN NOT vote for their own players, which makes things very interesting.  In the end, the Trojans took (4) of the (12) spots, including the MVP honor for the first time in 10+ years!  As you can see below, we are well represented on the all-conference team.  It also should be pointed out that all four selected are underclassmen (Including 4 of the 5 underclassmen on the team.  The other being South Dearborn's Ellen Barrett).

  • MVP- JENNA HOUNTZ – Jr., East Central (59)
  • KELLY KUNKEL – Sr., Franklin County (54)
  • STEPHANIE PAHREN – Sr., Franklin County (45)
  • ERIN LANNING – Sr., Batesville (44)
  • ELLEN BARRETT – So., South Dearborn (43)
  • JENNIFER REDELMAN – Sr., Greensburg (29)
  • SHELBY CUTTER – Sr., South Dearborn (29)
  • BROOKE PACKER – So., East Central (23)
  • AMANDA KAISER – Sr., Franklin County (23)
  • REBECCA WEBER – Jr., East Central (22)
  • SAMI TURNER – So., East Central (20)
  • LIZ SCHORNICK – Sr., Lawrenceburg (20)
  •         (The number of votes is in parenthesis)

8th Grade "Red" Team Goes Undefeated

The 8th grade "Red" team recently completed their undefeated season (15-0) by winning their end-of-season tournament.  Many of these kids were also on the 7th grade team last season that went undefeated as well (13-0).  As you would expect, this group, along with the 8th grade "Black" team have kids that should help continue the winning tradition at the high school level.

7th Grade "Red" Team Wins Tourney & 7th Grade "Black" Team is Runner-Up

(PHOTO UNAVAILABLE)

After starting the season 2-2, the "Red" team and Coach Riehle went on to win their final 11 games, including the end-of-season tournament.  The 7th grade "Black" team and Coach Stenger made it to the finals of the end-of-season tournament but just couldn't make enough shots to win their game.  Both teams have lots of talent and hopefully they will continue working hard in the off-season to bring home (2) championships next year at the 8th grade level.
